About Laughing Lassi

Laughing Lassi is more than just a comedy show—it’s a vibrant cultural experience that celebrates the unique voices of South Asian comedians in New York City. Founded by NYC-based comedian, actor, and entrepreneur Ali Mehedi, Laughing Lassi was born out of a desire to address the lack of diversity in the city’s comedy scene. Ali noticed that minority comedians, particularly those from South Asian backgrounds, often struggled to find stage time, as many comedy clubs prioritized diversity quotas over true inclusivity. Determined to create a platform where these talented artists could thrive, Ali launched Laughing Lassi, a monthly showcase dedicated to giving South Asian comedians the spotlight they deserve.

Over the past three years, Laughing Lassi has grown into the largest South Asian stand-up comedy community in America. The show has consistently sold out, drawing in audiences from all walks of life who come to enjoy the fresh, authentic humor that only Laughing Lassi can offer. With its official registration as a business in New York City, Laughing Lassi has cemented its place as a cornerstone of the city’s comedy scene—a testament to the unwavering support of the community and the undeniable talent of its performers.

Each show features a lineup of up-and-coming South Asian comedians, alongside special guest performers, ensuring a dynamic and diverse experience every time. The show is presented in English, making it accessible to a broad audience while maintaining its cultural roots. After the laughter, the fun continues with a complimentary after-party, where comedians and audience members can mingle, network, and share their love for comedy.
